Come and discover the depth of Japanese poetry and write haiku with us!

In partnership with Une Tokyoite, we will make you experience haiku, an encounter between Geneva and Matsuyama.

It all started with a common passion for haiku, this short Japanese poem that has seduced the whole world. Then, the desire to unveil a region, a history and invite your intimate poetry to resonate in this experience.

Virtual Kukai

From September 30 to October 31, 2022: You have one month to write your most beautiful autumn haiku and send them to us (3 haiku max. per person) by email to [email protected] before Monday, October 31 midnight (Swiss time). From November 07 to 13, you will be invited to vote for your favorite haiku. The three haiku with the most points will receive a prize (details at registration!). The results will be announced live on Thursday November 17, 2022 at 9 a.m. To participate click on the button!

Friday, September 30, 2022 - 9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.* / online, free

Opening ceremony: The haiku, between Geneva and Matsuyama

Have a coffee/tea/herbal tea and come chat with us! This free meeting will allow us to get to know each other and share with you the genesis of the "Haiku & chrysanthemum" project.  We will introduce you to the particularities of the city of Matsuyama when it comes to haiku (haiku mailboxes, paths marked with engraved stones , haiku bar, etc.). This will also be an opportunity to launch the virtual Kukai and resume the essentials of haiku writing. Then we will round up this meeting with a two-voice reading, in French and Japanese.

Poetic stroll, Writing workshop & Japanese snack

An outdoor writing workshop to fully experience the emotions and sensations of autumn before putting them down on paper. The workshop will be followed by a Japanese snack thanks to the typical products received from Ehime. Nice papers will also be available to write your haiku,  which you can then deposit in the "haiku mailbox" (at the Espace Gaimont throughout the month of October) and thus participate in the virtual Kukai.

Writing workshop: Writing "good" haiku

A writing workshop to explore the haiku art further than 17 syllables and a kigo. Through simple and concrete tools, I invite you to more meaning and lightness in your haiku.

Mizuhiki workshop (material included)

A creative workshop dedicated to mizuhiki, the art of creating knots and figurative shapes using braided washi paper cords. We find these traditional knots on birthday, weddings, condolences cards . For the occasion the artist (to be confirmed) has chosen a chrysanthemum motif and beautiful colors to embellish our fall!
